Get a quoteThe installation of stair pressurisation systems in multi-storey and high-rise buildings is crucial for facilitating evacuation, preserving human lives, and reducing property losses. These systems use air pressure differentials to prevent the spread of smoke, ensuring safe means of escape in the event of a fire.
The maximum and minimum stairwell pressure parameters should be sustained within agreed parameters prescribed within BS EN 12101-6:2005.
Properly designed pressure relief vents are the proven method of maintaining these set pressures. Apreco’s extensive range of standard air pressure relief vents (sometimes referred to as dampers) are characterised by superior design, a 240-minute fire-resistance rating, serial number traceability and ease of installation.
A variety of bespoke external solutions are also available, including weather protection using fixed low loss louvres and penthouse louvre assemblies.
Bespoke designs can handle all flow/pressure requirements in the pressurisation of stairwells built to BS EN 12101-6:2005 (replacing BS 5588- 4:1998).
Apreco’s range of pressure relief vents can also be adapted for use where there is a requirement for industrial applications.
The PRV vents have also been used in applications for the Defence Industry in combination with security louvres.

Stairwells
The pressurisation of stairwells with a pressure relief vent is an increasingly common method of ensuring safe means of exit from a building. Pressure control must be in place to maintain minimum and maximum stairwell pressures within agreed parameters.
BS EN 12101-6:2005 (replacing BS 5588-4:1998) requires pressurised fire escapes to be maintained at 50Pa and limited to a maximum of 60Pa.
Apreco’s pressure relief vent is characterised by ease of installation. For internal siting, the blade balancing system allows vertical, horizontal and inclined mounting. A variety of bespoke external solutions are also available, including weather protection using fixed or motorised low loss louvres and penthouse assemblies.
The PRV-F② holds a 4-hour fire integrity to BS EN 1634-1: 2014

The Wall Liner is used to line the cavity produced in the substrate and with flanges that match that of the vent to produce a clean professional looking installation.
Cover Grilles
Apreco’s extensive range of cover grilles can be fitted directly to both the vent and Wall Liner through the provided fixing holes, not impeding on the Free Vent Area.
Extension Sleeve
The Extension Sleeve allows the Pressure Relief Vent to be installed in deeper walls, increasing the depth of the installation by up to a maximum of 75mm.
Fixed Weather Louvre
Apreco’s High Free Vent Area (FVA) Fixed Weather Louvre (FWL) is used on external installations offers a large 65% FVA while ensuring the vent is protected from the outside elements.
Security Weather Louvre
The Security Weather Louvre has been designed specifically for use with Apreco’s range of Pressure Relief Vents with low loss 65% Free Vent Area. Robust design with a burglar-resistant rating of BR2.
C-Frame Kit
The C-Frame Kit allows the Vent to be installed in narrow walls. Each C-Frame Kit decreases the wall depth requirement of the installation by 135mm.
Narrow C-Frame Kit
The Narrow C-Frame Kit allows the Vent to be installed in narrow walls. Each Narrow C-Frame Kit decreases the wall depth requirement of the installation by 50mm.
Security Grilles
Apreco’s security grilles are designed to offer a light to medium-security deterrent where Fire suppression and pressure relief vents could become subject to such environments.
Dynamic Cover Seal
The Dynamic Cover Seal (DCS) is used in conjunction with the IGV or PRV-F in positive venting applications, where additional sealing of the enclosure is required.
